7 Days to Becoming a More Confident Leader
Day 5 – Is the Plan Working?
Day 5 is here – you’ve documented successes, set a goal, and made a plan. Are you going strong? How do we keep going to Day 7 and crushing it? There are only a few days left, so let’s buckle down and get focused!
What do You Need in Order to Reach Your Goal?
The resources that we have available to us can make a big difference in our ability to reach our goal. Many times leaders will blame their lack of resources as the excuse as to why they couldn’t obtain the goal. However, this is a poor excuse because we have control over most of our resources. If you need more education – it’s possible. More money – there are ways to obtain it. Need more people, or the right people? You can find that too.
Time is the one limited resource that we all have. The real challenge in reaching goals is not money or education – it all comes down to time. There are ways to get the rest of them, but we cannot create more time. It is outside of our control. So, you are left to determine how do you accomplish your goals in the limited amount of time that you have? And that’s where your resources come into play.
Change Your Focus
You have heard it before, and will hear it again, because it’s true. Everyone has the same amount of time each day. 24 hours – 1,440 minutes – 86,400 seconds. It doesn’t sound like that much when you break it down, does it? So, how are some people so effective with their time and some seem to accomplish nothing at all. The successful leaders know how to use the resources available to them in order to achieve goals.
As a leader you should always be resource gathering. You should be looking for resources that you can tap into at a future date if the situation should arise. This could be accomplished through things like spending precious time to create a strong network of people with different skills and abilities. Or continuing to learn about and stay updated in your industry. And, even getting to know those that you are leading so you know the strengths and weaknesses of each person.
So, when looking at your goal that you are trying to reach by Day 7, what resources do you need to take advantage of in order to get there?
- Is there someone else that you need to contact to help you complete a task or two?
- Do you need to be better at time management so you can accomplish more throughout the day?
- Would spending a few minutes doing some research to gain education in the area you are working help you get past a bump in the road?
Put It into Action
Today your action plan is going to focus on both your current and future situation. Look at the goal you are trying to accomplish in the next two days, and then decide what resources you could use to help you reach it. Take a couple minutes today to get started. Call that person that could help you out. Set aside a few minutes to conduct research. Purchase the equipment you need to make it possible.
Then, spend just a few minutes thinking about what you can do to start building resources that you can tap in the future. Look for ways to be proactive to make this process easier the next time.
Document three more success. This will put you up to 15 for the 5 days so far. That’s 15 things that you have succeeded at doing this week. They may have been things you were doing anyway, or they may be things that you are doing because of the goal you are working towards. It doesn’t matter either way. All that matters is that you are recognizing these accomplishments in your life.
