4 Ways to Get the Most Out of Executive Coaching

4 Ways to Get the Most Out of Executive Coaching

Working with an executive coach can be a powerful way to improve your productivity and leadership skills. And, those are just a few of the ways that executive coaching can help you. However, simply hiring a coach isn’t enough to experience these benefits.

If you really want to get the full benefit out of executive coaching, here are a few things to keep in mind:

1. Keep an open mind

The only way coaching is really going to work for you is if you are willing to keep an open mind. Your coach will be helping you learn how to be more self-aware. This means that you’ll need to be able to spot your strengths, but also your weaknesses.

If you’re unwilling to really listen to what your coach says, nothing is going to change. It’s your coach’s job to help you improve. But it’s your job to keep an open mind and take in the information that they are giving you.

2. Don’t be afraid of being challenged

If executive coaching was easy, everyone would do it. But it’s not. When you’re working with a coach, they’re going to be encouraging you to step outside of your comfort zone. That’s a good thing. Instead of pushing back, lean in and stretch yourself.

Remember, you got to where you were on your own. You chose to work with a coach to see growth and changes. Trust your coach.

3. Know what you want to accomplish

If you don’t know what your goals are for coaching, then how is your coach supposed to help you? While your coach can help you work towards identifying goals, you need to know what’s important to you. Focus on what drove you to hire a coach in the first place. What do you want to get out of coaching? How will you know if your coaching sessions are successful?

It’s important to have goals for your coaching. This will allow you to see growth and acknowledge your success.

4. Take action!

Your executive coach can give you all the tools you need and set you up for success, but if you aren’t doing the work, nothing’s going to happen. It’s not the information that causes you to grow as a leader, it’s the action you take with the information you get.

Your coach should be providing you with actionable steps. Do them! Then, look for others that you can take on your own. This is where growth happens.
