Limiting Beliefs Stopping Your Business from Growing

overcoming limiting beliefs

How we think plays a large role in our behavior and the results we achieve. If you’re not making the progress you desire, you are likely struggling with one or more limiting beliefs in your life and business.

We live in a world that prioritizes being led by feelings and emotions. Society stresses that we should do whatever we need to “feel” good about ourselves and the world around us.

But what if our feelings are lying to us? What if our thoughts and beliefs don’t truly have our best interests at heart?

When we follow our feelings and emotions, we’re often held back from achieving the best out there for us—including in our career and business growth.

Many people are unaware that we have the power to choose our thoughts even if our feelings don’t match up with them. And when we create a habit of choosing the right thoughts, our emotions and feelings eventually catch up. But it’s not easy and takes a high level of intentionality, which is where many people fall off course.

It’s much easier to revert back to what’s comfortable, even when it’s holding us back from reaching our goals.

If you’re ready to be one of the people who push past comfort to go after the results you desire in life and business, work on reframing or eliminating the following limiting beliefs in your life:

1. Everything needs to be perfect

As an entrepreneur, it’s important to overcome perfectionism if you want to achieve your goals and succeed in your business. Thinking things need to be perfect before you start can hold you back and stop you from making progress.

Perfectionism can lead to procrastination, missed opportunities, and unnecessary stress. You may find yourself spending too much time planning and analyzing, therefore delaying the launch of your product or service and causing you to miss out on valuable opportunities in the market.

Perfectionism can also put an unnecessary burden on you. This can lead to stress, anxiety, and burnout. The pressure to create a flawless product or service can be overwhelming and ultimately counterproductive. It can hinder progress and prevent you from achieving your goals.

To overcome perfectionism, you must embrace imperfection and take action even when things are imperfect. Focus on making progress rather than achieving perfection and be willing to learn from mistakes and failures. By taking action and learning from your experiences, you can create a culture of growth and innovation, ultimately leading to the success of your company and team.

2. I “should” have…

Do you spend time “shoulding” yourself? As a leader, it’s critical you stop worrying about what you “should have done” if you want to move forward.

Hindsight shows you the things you “should have” done, but you didn’t have that knowledge before you experienced it. When you get caught up in thinking about and regretting what you didn’t do, it stops you from learning from the experiencing and moving forward.

Instead, learn from your experiences and use them to inform your decisions moving forward.

To stop worrying about what you “should have done,” focus on what you can do now to achieve your goals. Set realistic goals, develop a plan, and take action.

Remember that mistakes and failures are a natural part of the entrepreneurial journey and can provide valuable learning opportunities. By focusing on the present and taking action, you can move forward and achieve your goals.

3. I’m not _______ (good enough, smart enough, educated enough, etc)

There are always going to be people ahead of you. There I said it. You don’t have to waste time worrying about it someone is smarter than you, more educated, better in other ways. You need to stop playing the comparison game if you want to hit your goals.

If there is a specific area holding you back, then take steps to grow in that area. For example, if you need education around your business finances, than work with someone who can help you understand them.

Imposter syndrome is real and something everyone experiences at times. It can lead to self-doubt, anxiety, and a lack of confidence. When you’re struggling with it, don’t accept it as truth. Instead, challenge your negative self-talk. Replace negative thoughts with positive ones.

4. There isn’t enough…

Scarcity mindset will hold back business growth. It’s essential for you to overcome a scarcity mindset because it elads to lack of innovation, missed opportunities, and limited growth.

A scarcity mindset is characterized by a belief that resources, including clients, are limited and there isn’t enough for everyone. If you’re stuck in this mindset, you’ll operate from a place of fear.

It’s time to cultivate a mindset of abundance so you can see where new opportutnies exist. Collaboration and networking with others can help you identify areas of opportunity. Work on thinking outside of the box to create new opportunities for growth and success.

5. I’m not ready

Many entrepreneurs and business leaders struggle with feeling like they’re not ready. You may find you have a long list of things that “need” to happen before you’re ready to take the next step.

It’s essential to determine what you actually need to get started and what you’re using as an excuse.

Often the best way to learn and grow is by taking action and making adjustments and pivots along the way. If you’re waiting to get started until you feel ready, you may never take the first step.

Instead, set goals, create a plan, and take the first step.
